NYFW is over but the looks shown off on the runway and in the front row made a lasting impression. Some swoon-worthy manicures included Bella Thorne’s stud-filled metallic nail art and Jada Pinkett Smith’s chic chevron ombre. Both designs were executed by celeb nail tech and Dermelect’s color curator, Elle. Read on to find out how she created both looks.
“The inspiration for Bella’s manicure look was the Jeremy Scott monster jumper she was wearing,” says Elle. “Since it was that Kelly green color, I wanted to avoid the look becoming Christmas-y, so I reached for Dermelect’s new shade, Heirloom. Because it’s such a great jump-off from purple to blue, it’s a great contrast to the green. You could use any metallic Kelly green polish for this—this one is a duochrome between green and gold.”
The studs used on the design came from DollarNailArt.com, shapes like octagons, circles, stars, and squares were used and sealed with Dermelect High Maintenance Instant Nail Thickener top coat. The color block design and placement of the studs was collaboration between Thorne and Elle which resulted in a truly spontaneous look.
Looking at Smith’s nails, Elle says the manicure was a reflection by the star’s latest gig. “Jada’s nail style recently has been really inspired by her show, “Gotham,” but it’s funny how much it really correlated with what she was wearing to the Dennis Basso show, which make this nail art really wearable.”
The base color used was Demelect Debonnaire. Once it dried, Elle sponged Dermelect Excentric to blend a subtle fade. She then used Chanel Black Satin to create a think chevron tip to outline the tip of Smith’s stilettos. Elle sealed the look with Dermelect High Maintenance Instant Nail Thickener top coat.
