Do you enjoy a good nail art challenge? With so many bloggers and the help of social media it is easier than ever to participate in a challenge and keep track of what everyone else is doing too. September marks the start of the famous 31 Day Challenge for nail art fanatics everywhere.
Some could argue that blogger Sarah Waite of Chalkboard Nails helped make this challenge popular. Waite jumped on the bandwagon right after she began blogging in 2011 in order to push herself. “My friend Rebecca joined me … Ever since then, I’ve been doing it every September! It really helps me think creatively and work my brain, not to mention the fact that it helps me grow as a nail artist,” says Waite. A week before the challenge began she posted about it on all of her social networks and became overwhelmed by the response. “It’s amazing to see the nail community come together around something like this. There are no prizes, no rewards; it’s just the pride of finishing and being a part of something bigger than yourself.” Not only did Waite complete the challenge successfully, but over 9,200 photos bearing the #31DC2013 hashtag were posted to Instagram.
I asked Waite to pick a few of her favorites. You can see her complete recap here.
“The 31DC is really difficult — doing 31 consecutive days of nail art is definitely taxing,” says Waite. She explains that some bloggers complete the challenge at a slower pace by fitting in two or three manicures per week instead of trying to squeeze in seven. This is perhaps why #31DC2013 is the only self-imposed challenge Waite has participated in. “The hardest part of being a beauty blogger is staying current on everything! There are so many wonderful brands and they are releasing new things constantly. I want to keep my posts relevant, but there is just so much to cover that you really have to stay aware.” Still, we give Waite tons of credit. This beauty blogger stayed so up on the challenge that she managed to share her favorite posts from other bloggers with us. Click on the links below to view these works of art.
