Last Thursday I attended the opening of the Beauty Collection in Newport Beach, Calif. This was the Beauty Collection’s first foray into Orange County, after successfully opening three stores in the Los Angeles area. Many familiar faces were spotted at the event.

The nail aisle was very cool, featuring: OPI, Red Carpet Manicure, Deborah Lippmann, Essie, and Ciate. I talked to Beauty Collection owner Shawn Tavakoli who says he welcomed these brands into the store because he has a strong partnership with these names and that they don’t compete against each other when placed in the same aisle; they each have something different to offer customers. Tavakoli informed me that nail products have remained a strong seller despite dips in the economy. When I asked him about branching out into Orange County he said he felt Newport Beach provided the perfect foundation for the direction in which the Beauty Collection should move. Hopefully this means even more stores will be sprouting up soon!

A great discovery was Goa skincare. The recipes for these products are all natural and follow the traditional skincare regimens from India. Anyone who loves Ayurvedic or luxury skincare products will love how smooth this feels on the skin. Besides being found in Beauty Collection stores it is starting to sprout up in spas.

The coolest scoop I got was from Master Minx Janice Jordan who revealed that Minx was partnering with the Beauty Collection to offer a custom collection to consumers. Six different designs would be available for $18 at Beauty Collection, one of which features the Beauty Colletion logo on a silver background. Janice actually wore these on her fingernails and they looked fierce! These wraps are a different formula than the professional ones, but will still last for over a week. They can be removed by breaking the seal on the wraps. Some designs are even transparent so they can be layered over any kind of nail art.

I for one am really thankful that salon fanatics and beauty enthusiasts in Orange County will be able to enjoy the Beauty Collection and add to their ever-growing stash of goods. The Beauty Collection opens May 18.
