There’s been a lot of buzz around Paintbox, a modern manicure studio located in the SoHo area of New York City. While in town for New York Fashion Week, I was invited to drop in and see what all the hype was about.

When you walk in, you’re given a seasonal book of nail art to choose from. I requested Youtube nail sensation Julie Ventura to do my nails because I love her style! Julie says that giving clients a set number of options makes decision making easier for them and lets them have a more relaxing salon visit. Being a huge fan of the half-moon, I decided to choose the studio’s most popular look in the fall palette (titled “Midas Touch”) from Gelish. Julie added an accent nail for even more bling.

The studio rotates its polish and gel-polish collections by season. The back of the nail art book contains blobs of the colors available. Likewise, designs are transitioned season to season, curated to be on-trend based on runway looks.

My favorite part is the manicam built into the wall. You stick your hands in the cube, then the screen tells you how to position your hands with the watermark. Once you approve, the image is photoshopped and e-mailed to you to be shared on social media.

While this nail studio is quite fashionable (editors from nearly every major magazine come here), it’s also a haven for relaxation. I personally found New York to be very busy, crowded, and almost overwhelming, so it was nice to chill out in such a creative environment. Whether you’re an editor or not, make an appointment at Paintbox for your next trip to The Big Apple, and see for yourself what the fuss is about.
